Here it is - my father's birthday gift

In Chiasso I received my Scott Addict R2 from Marjan, double world-champion in Mountain-Bike, from Slovenia.

Driving home from the train-station, I could feel the speed this bike has:
Mark Cavendish, Team HTC-Columbia, on SCOTT Addict: 6 stage victories at the TDF in 2009 and 5 stage victories at the TDF in 2010.

At home I compared the frame of the Addict with my RACER bike, used for daily cycling back and from work, and a CR1 Jean de la Tour 2003 Scott, I loved to cylce. (borrowed from Andreas, former top amateur triathlete).

Turning 50 - getting a new bike

When I joined high-school at age twelve, my father bought me my first bike. An "UTO" 5-gear steel-bike, blue-painted with yellow flames. Now 38 years later for my 50th birthday, he bought me a Scott Addict R2. No steel-frame, but carbon-frame 15.64 lbs (7.10 kg) light - not five-gears, but 30 gears Shimano Ultegra.

It is great to have such a father!

Father's Day - Cycling over 4 passes category 3

The Buchenegg 786 m

There is a ramp leading from Zurich over Adliswil to the actual climb, which is over 2,75 km 237 m. The rise is 6-9% on the first kilometer and then when it goes through the forest it will be 10-12%, which is nice in normal summers. But today with 10 degrees at the top you didn’t need the shadow.

From my start at home, it took me 1 hour 4 min. The bike I am using is from Andreas and with around 7 kg it is still one of the lightest on the market:Scott CR1 "Jean de la Tour"

The Albis Pass 793 m

After a short, but quite fast downhill (up to 56 km for my courage) reached the 2nd pass after 1 hour 34 minutes riding. I reached the top with little rain and 9 Degrees.

In 1979 my friend Nivedak, his brother and I made a bike-race up Zurich-Mountain. Now 31 years later and 20 kg heavier it took me 35 minutes to reach the top - total altitude covered so far 1091 m - and for the first time the sun came out for a few minutes. 15 Degrees

4th and last "pass". As it started raining heavily and the temperature fell to 11 degrees, the last but shortest pass, was still a little challenge. I lost my bike-glasses - they fell down and were run over by a car - so I was happy that after 3 hours 30 minutes, 70 km and 1243 m total climb, I was home. BUT STILL A WONDERFUL FATHERS DAY!

Skiing with my Father and sister in Arosa

My parents go on vacation every year in Arosa. And they invited my sister and me for the week-end for skiing there.

The road from Zurich to Arosa is 100 miles and you can do it in two hours. Due to heavy snowing - alone in the Zurich over 200 accidents were counted - we had to drive really careful and up the road from Chur to Arosa with 256 turns, we had to put snow chains on our tires. (If you haven't done it the last 20 years, not that easy!)

But the long and dangerous driving was worthy it, as we could enjoy a delicious meal at my parents place. But for skiing we had to wait until next day, as there was still heavy snowing and it got colder and colder.

Finally in the morning the sky cleared up and you see here me with my father before going up to the skiing place.

Here you see my sister and my father on the top of the "Weisshorn" 2,653 metres (8,704 ft)

I also made it there.

Here you see the Weisshorn and its black and red ski slopes, which offer some fantastic skiing!
