After 70 Days My First Ride on Latvijan National Day
18 November is the Independence Day of Latvia — even though there were no borders set, a group of dedicated nationalists proclaimed an independent Latvian state on this date in 1918. Several months after this courageous step had been made, military interventions still went on — the Russian Empire did not want to lose this important territory. Nevertheless, this day is still the most important national holiday for every Latvian.
I love this beautiful country, so I decided today to make my comeback, after my bike crash with a multi-fractured upper arm. This was in preparation for my bike race Chur - Arosa and ended in a 70 day break from cycling.

For the Start of the 3100 Mile Race - 125 km and 2000 m up (Klausenpass)
My starting point:
Lake Lucerne, 434 m (1,424 ft), a lake with a lot of bends and arms reaching from the city of Lucerne into the mountains. (Click on pic to enlarge it).
After 10 miles the work starts over 15 miles with a climb of 1490 m.. (It took me 2 hours and 09 min with max pulse 178).
After almost two hours I can see the Klausenpass 1952 m / 6404 ft at the right site. But I still had two hard miles to go.
View down to the valley where the climb started...
It says dangerous route!
Unfortunately there were recently two casualties with dead people on that pass.
So down in the valley the police was warning the motorbike drivers to be careful. On a sunny day, there are up to 120 motorbikes passing you during the 2 hours up and the 30 min down.
(Actually I had for 1400 m down over 13 miles a time of 32 min which placed me 88th place out of 470 riders on Strava. Average speed: 40 km and max 65 km

Klausenpass from Ziegelbrücke 103 km and 1800 m
The actual climb is 1300 m over a distance of 21 km (half-marathon), which I did in two hours.
This is the view of the last 25 min about 3 km.
Here are the stats of today's training with temperatures over 30 C.

Cycling Challenge June 2015 INTERNATIONAL MONTH OF CYCLING
In the morning still with fever and high pulse 65 instead of 44 out of bed, I cancelled the start into the month of cycling. But at 7:30 PM after work I couldn't help but go on the bike.
And it was worth - after a short summer rain - I saw this beautiful rainbow!
Maximum pulse was with 149 on the Hüttiker Pass, with 17% a really steep climb, but with 6 min also short. Average pulse was 115, which shows that I am not yet really fit.

After Two Days with Fever in Bed.....
After two days with fever in bed, I decided to skip today the Pragelpass with my "Schwager" - and with a pulse of 65 out of bed - instead of 44 - I wanted to take it easy....
But I didn't calculate in the Pass "Hüttiker" with a 17 % climb.
Luckily there were also some flat parts on my route, which could easily become my morning training as it took me just 1 hour to the place where I work.

Ibergeregg (1406 m) from Pfäffikon (408 m)
Fresh from its bike-service I choose today the Scott CR1, instead of the Scott Addict. (What counts is not 1 lbs less weight, but that the breaks work perfect as maximum speeds are up to 60 km/hour.
Distance 78,3km Time 3:24:25
Climbing altitude 1.283m
Average speed: 23,0km/h // Maximum speed: 59,8km/h
Average pulse: 131 // Maximum pulse: 165 (age: 54 // 220 minus 54 = my max pulse 166 !!)

First Climb Training in 2015 - "Forch" in Pourring Rain and Pretty Cold
Today it was raining strongly - but still then Switzerland has some safe and still challenging routes like the Forch with a 500 overall climb from the City of Zurich.
Some statistics: Distance 48,9km Time: 2:02:54
Overall climb: 525m
Average speed: 23,9km/h max: 51,8km/h
Main thing are good clothes against cold and wet. From right I was wearing normal 1) bike shorts and base line a thermo shirt 2) Bike shirt short with "Ärmlingen" 3) Gilet against the wind 4) Assos rain-jacket that should keep you dry for 4 hours, but today so much water was coming down, that I felt wet after 1 1/2 hours.
After the downhill from Forch (670 m) - which was pretty fresh, I could enjoy the green meadows with a view on the highst Zurich mountains (1270 m).

The Bike Season 2015 started...
Today I decided to start my bike season - as skiing on a regular base due to work on the weekend will be difficult. But temperatures around 3 C it was quite fresh. Also a strong headwind didn't help to feel really comfortable.

First Skiing Day in 2015
Today I had my first ski day in 2015 with my sister Buschka, ski-instructor, and my three nephews Joshua, Tamino and Dorian.
When you need some recovery - you will have to stop in the "Munggä Hut". There you get a super-fast service from "Nono".
It was a warm day and in some parts the snow was a little bit "watery" - but what a scenary and what a beautiful sky!
